Massimo Briaschi, agent of Napoli defender Christian Maggio, has revealed that his client is yet to hear from the Azzurri regarding the renewal of his contract.

The 32-year-old, whose current deal is set to expire in June 2015, has provided one assist in his nine Serie A appearances this season thus far and his agent insists that Italian has a good relationship with coach Rafa Benitez, but admits that his future in Naples still remains uncertain.

Briaschi spoke to TuttoNapoli.net about the possibility of his client signing a new contract before the campaign comes to a close and conceded that everything has been going fine for Maggio despite rumours of a possible exit from Napoli.

“There is a great relationship between Maggio and Benitez, they have a lot of respect for each other,” said the agent.

“Christian has been playing a lot and this shows that the coach is happy with his performances and can depend on him.

“The renewal? There hasn’t been anything new. At this point I haven’t met with the club to discuss it, nor are there any scheduled meetings on the horizon to talk about Christian’s future.

“Maggio has been at Napoli for seven years, he’s doing fine here, but both sides must agree on the renewal to make it happen.

“In the case that Napoli want to renew him, [sporting director Riccardo] Bigon will call us and tell us that there is a desire to extend the relationship.”
