1-1 come from behind draw at Cesena on Monday evening in Serie A.

Juanito Gomez’s first goal of the season 13 minutes from time cancelled out a first half strike by Gregoire Defrel, but Mandorlini admits his players are their own worst enemies as they had to come from behind again.

“We had the wrong approach, because we knew we had to win the match,” the 54-year-old tactician said in his post-match press conference as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.

“Unfortunately we conceded an avoidable goal and paid for it on a psychological level.

“Then we lifted ourselves and there was a response in the second half. I’m happy with my players, and I think we deserved the draw for how it came about.

“Our problem, if I may say so, is that too often we stay at a disadvantage because we create chances, even if we don’t score a lot.”

Mandorlini also explained his decision to start Nene in place of Luca Toni at the Stadio Dino Manuzzi.

“Nene? He played the game he had to play, he is a player who sacrifices himself and will fight forever,” he continued.

“I saved because Toni is no longer a young man, he needed a rest because he plays ninety nine percent of the matches.

“At San Siro he will return and I hope that he can find the path to goal.”
