Chievo played a goalless draw against Sassuolo on Sunday, giving newly appointed coach Rolando Maran plenty to ponder.

Chievo entered the match at the foot of the table, looking to right the ship with their new coach, after a terrible start to their 2014 campaign.

“I think this point was worth it, as it’s a signal that we can be ourselves,” he told Radio 1.

Looking ahead to a match against Cesena next weekend, with both sides occupying the bottom two slots in the Serie A table, Maran highlighted the game’s importance.

“Cesena with be a tough game,”he continued. “We know how much these fights count.

“It was important to go out against Sassuolo without risking too much.  I’ve seen that they are very compact, even before, but with negative results. I believe this result can give the club a sense of calm.

Chievo can definitely improve the quality of play. It’s not what I would like. But we will work a little this week, and I am convinced that with the temperament of these guys, there are great opportunities to improve.”
