Legendary Italian coach Marcello Lippi has announced his retirement from coaching, as he is set to take over the role of technical director at Chinese outfit Guangzhou Evergrande.

The former Juventus coach announced his retirement from coaching after Guangzhou secured their third successive Chinese Super League title under Lippi’s guidance, but was quick to add that he will overtake a directorial role at the club.

“I do not want to coach anymore, I’m too old,” he said. “However, I will overtake the role of technical director.”

Lippi’s retirement puts an end to an illustrious career which has seen him win five Serie A titles, one UEFA Champions League, a UEFA Supercup, and the 2006 FIFA World Cup among other honours.
