Inter director general Marco Fassone has insisted that Walter Mazzarri’s job is secure at the Nerazzurri despite the 2-0 loss to Parma as president Erick Thohir wants to give him time and avoid making a snap judgement.

Fassone also hinted that the Portuguese defender Rolando could be on his way back to San Siro and he believes that Inter are not yet too far behind to compete in the higher reaches of the Serie A table.

“There’s not an emergency with the coach, we have 15 points and we’re not far off the top spots,” said Fassone to Domenica Sportiva.

“The game against Parma? After the restart we played well and we got close to earning a draw.

“We don’t need to look for excuses about the game.

“We can’t maintain continuity in our work, after 15 games in the league and the cups then we can make a primary assessment.

“We have few points, even though the Italian league has diminished in quality.

“Now we have tough cycle of games coming up as we will face AC Milan and Roma.”

The director also fielded questions about the relationship between Thohir and Massimo Moratti after the Italian stepped down from his role as honorary president.

“Their relationship is still friendly, they speak to each other every day,” he continued.

“The departure of Moratti may have affected the performance of the players.”

Fassone also sounded positive when speaking about the chances of a January return for Rolando.

“He’s a player that we like and we know him well, he could be back in Nerazzurro.”

Despite Fassone’s reassurances about Mazzarri’s job security, speculation has continued that Thohir is lining up a list of possible replacements to be brought in at the end of the 2014-15 season that includes the currently unattached Roberto Mancini and Luciano Spalletti.

Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone, Sampdoria’s Sinisa Mihajlovic and Everton’s Roberto Martinez have also been named as coaches on Thohir’s shortlist should Mazzarri be given the sack.
