Philippe Mexes’ AC Milan career could be set for an unbelievable turnaround that may see him sign a new contract with the seven-time Champions League winners.

The Frenchman did not start the season as first choice at centre back but has suddenly forced his way into coach Filippo Inzaghi’s plans, having started the last two games including captaining his side in the Derby della Madonnina against Inter.

Ex-Roma man Mexes’ contract expires at the end of this season and he is the highest earner at the club, scooping €4million per season and he could be set for talks with the club over an extension, according to Tuttosport.

However, it is understood that any contract negotiations will be dependent on the centre back agreeing to a significant decrease in his current wages.

This is something that he would be open to as his preference at the moment is to stay at the Rossoneri.
