Vincenzo Montella wants Fiorentina to secure first place in their Europa League group when they travel to face Guingamp on Thursday night.

The 1990 finalists have already qualified for the knock-out stages, thanks to a late Maunel Pasqual equaliser against PAOK Salonika, and another draw in Brittany would confirm the Italians as Group K winners.

Fiorentina broke a two match losing streak with a narrow win at Verona over the weekend and the Viola coach wants to build on that result.

“When we played Verona, I was happy with the attitude of the team and that we wanted to show our worth,” Montella said.

“These qualities led us to victory and we must continue, even in the Europa League, to aim high and push for victory.

“It is no use doing it in one game, we need to do it across the season.”

Fiorentina are midway through three straight away fixtures, with a visit to Sardinia to take on Zdenek Zeman’s Cagliari the last of the trio on Sunday afternoon.

‘This is difficult when you have a midweek game and to make matters worse we have three away games in succession,” Montella said.

“For that reason I’ve left some players at home who can start to prepare for our game in Cagliari.

“Guingamp are a proactive team who love to press with speed and intensity.

“They resemble Cagliari in that way although with different qualities so it will be good preparation.”
