MertensNapoli midfielder Dries Mertens has thanked those responsible for his recovery from an injury sustained on international duty after finally returning to training.

The Belgian played only twelve minutes as a substitute against Wales before leaving the field with what looked to be a severe head injury but is back available for the Partenopei only a couple of weeks on.

“What a great feeling to be back on a football field,” he wrote on his Instagram page.

“I want to thank all the people who helped me at the hospitals at Jette [in Brussels] and in Naples.”

“All the people who have sent me messages thanks for your support. Now I just have to get back on the field as soon as possible to help my team, Napoli.”

The Partenopei travel to Sparta Prague in the Europa League on Thursday before visiting high-flying Sampdoria on Sunday evening, with Mertens set to be available for both games.
