Pirlo Nesta AC MilanItalian legend Alessandro Nesta believes that the most former club AC Milan can hope for this season is Champions League qualification, but the Rossoneri have no chance competing with Juventus and Roma for the Scudetto.

Despite recent difficulties for the side, the 38-year-old praised former teammate Filippo Inzaghi for his start to life as Milan coach and certainly feels there is plenty to feel confident about at the San Siro.

“Inzaghi had a good start but it is not easy,” Nesta told Sky Sport Italia.

“Changing coach is not easy, but there is more potential than before.

“The goal is to get in the Champions League and have a good championship.

“Before Milan were playing to win the Scudetto, now they do not have a chance to compete with the best, however, I think they can finish in the top three.”

At the beginning of what could be a prosperous coaching career, the 2006 World Cup winner hopes to use the knowledge gained from some of the men he trained under, and is confident Antonio Conte has the drive to take the national team forward to victory, whilst controlling Mario Balotelli.

“I had [Zdenek] Zeman, [Sven Goran] Eriksson, [Marcello] Lippi, [Arrigo] Sacchi and [Carlo] Ancelotti, their experience brings out your best and I hope to do well,” explained Nesta. “Conte can have a successful time and is someone that refuses to finish second, he wants to win.

“He has left Juventus and is a great choice for the national team, he is the best.

“I do not know Balotelli, but I guess even in a solid group one may go astray, but he can be put back in line.”
