A statement released by Parma playing staff urged supporters to rally around the team in an effort to turn their deteriorating season around.

The club recently admitted to having missed a November 15 deadline to pay outstanding taxes and wages, thus leading to an impending deduction of at least one point.

This latest development led to the players’ decision to place on record their request for support via the club’s official website in attempting to drag themselves out of trouble.

“At this difficult time for Parma, the team feels the need to stay in silence, albeit aware that the strongest responses in sport should always be given on the pitch,” read the squad’s statement.

“Despite numerous difficulties and the discouraging position in the table, the locker room still believes it can change the course of a season that started in the worst way possible.

“For this we need more than ever the support of all those who care about the Crociati. We will do everything possible to honour this jersey every game, aware that upholding the tradition of this club and making the fans proud is a moral duty, even before a competitive goal.

“The commitment to get out of this situation will be the maximum: no points taken away will ever remove the team’s motivation and dedication.

“It will be a long and uphill struggle, but it can be done: the most difficult challenges, once completed, are also the most rewarding.”

Roberto Donadoni’s men currently sit rock-bottom of Serie A with just two wins to their name after suffering a 7-0 thrashing at the hands of champions Juventus last time out.
