Parma president Tommaso Ghirardi has insisted that he will remain at the club to try and help them – insisting they can overcome their problems by February.

With mounting debts, Ghirardi seemed set to quit the club in the wake of their tax problems which saw them omitted from the Europa League but since reneged on that threat.

Speaking to Gazzetta di Parma, he honestly said: “We have had six months of mistakes but that cannot and should not erase seven good years of work.

“Funding coming in has been blocked by rumours of the sale of the club but there have been mistakes made that have led to little money being available.

“By February 15, I hope to have resolved this economic situation. If we can find a potential buyer, we can ensure a bright future and help the club and teams without any problems.”

He added an apology on the problems that will soon see the club docked points in Serie A: “Leonardi and I will continue to run the club until anything comes through. I admit my own guilty and I apologise to the team and the fans but I will not run away. I never have done and I will not now.”
