Lazio coach Stefano Pioli confirmed his aim to see Lazio return to Europe and believes there were only a few negatives from the 4-2 victory over Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico in Serie A on Monday night, despite a shaky second half performance.

The Sardinian side caused a slight scare to Lazio in the last ten minutes of the match when Joao Pedro pulled the score back to 3-2 before Ederson restored Lazio’s two goal lead. However, Pioli did not seem overly concerned about the manner of his side’s victory after commanding first half performance.

“The second half there were only a few negatives. Of course, it’s one thing to win 1-0 and another to win 3-0 though,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We have to manage the ball better and not make so much work for the backline.”

Piolo went on to reaffirm Lazio’s European ambitions, but without getting carried away.

“Our objective is to return to Europe, but the main objectives are to keep achieving these little steps, game after game. Now we take these three important points and we think about the next game.”

The Biancocelesti boss was also full of praise for veteran striker Miroslav Klose, who bagged a brace.

“Anyone who plays against him always finds him ready. I can’t repeat enough that what he does on the field and what he does off it that can’t be seen is equally important.”
