The youth system of Inter is under heavy criticism from one of their former youth products, ex-player Federico Piovaccari.

Piovaccari is critical of his treatment as a youth product from the system of Inter, and the general lack of opportunities for youth development in Italy.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the striker summarised the situation faced by young Italian footballer: “There is little room for young players. Those who are out on loan will not be back. Although there are seven players on loan from Inter’s Primavera side, none of these will return to the Inter senior team. They are players that did not have or do not have space in the Nerazzurri.”

Piovaccari continue further: “In Italy, in general we are envious of those who play elsewhere and we would say ‘look how well they play’, but then we do not offer the same opportunities to those we have at home, and do not promote youth development.

“Barcelona offers important opportunities to their young players, but it does not happen to us.”

Piovaccari is currently on loan at SD Eibar from Sampdoria. The former Inter youngster has a career of journeyman as he has played for 10 clubs as senior player in four different countries since 2006/07 season.
