Miralem Pjanic says the objective for Roma this season is to go one better and win the Scudetto ahead of reigning Serie A champions Juventus.

The Bosnian international helped the capital side finish runners-up to the Bianocneri last season and this term is once again a protagonist as Roma now try to deny Juventus claiming a fourth consecutive league title.

“Last year Juventus edged us out, but this year our goal is to win,” Pjanic told Vocegiallorossa.

Roma can put pressure on the Serie A leaders Saturday evening when they visit Atalanta before Juventus’ tough assignment away to their city rivals Lazio. Pjanic knows the Giallorossi need to retain their focus.

“It’s always difficult to play in Bergamo, we expect a difficult match, but it is important to return with all three points,” he continued.

“As a group we know we need to work hard every day and everyone knows what to expect. We have been unfortunate with injuries but I think once they return everything will be much easier.

“It will not be easy, but the season is a long one so it is important to remain in the race. In February-March it is crucial to be in the running.

“I think it will be a two horse race with Juventus, although we’ll have to wait and see who else might be there or thereabouts.”

Off the pitch, the 24-year-old former Metz and Lyon midfielder spoke about how much he is enjoying life in Rome and his joy at becoming a father for the first time.

“I’ve never been so happy as I am now in Rome,” he insisted. “I have fond memories from my time in Metz, but here the club and I are very much tied to each other.

“I’m teaching my son French and Bosnian, he always makes me smile and every available moment I spend with him.

“It’s the best thing that I have today, with my family and this great club.”
