AC Milan and Inter drew 1-1 on Sunday evening in an exciting derby in which both sides hit the bar.

The Rossoneri took the lead in the first half through an exquisite first time finish from Jeremy Menez inside the box but were pegged back by the Nerazzurri in the second half after a poor Cristian Zapata clearance fell to Joel Obi on the edge of the box, who finished well into the bottom corner.

Did we get our player rating right? Feel free to leave a comment if you disagree with the scores given.

AC Milan

Diego Lopez– 6.5 – Secure

Saved superbly in difficult circumstances with a one on one with Icardi and looked secure throughout the game gathering crosses with ease. Possibly should have got a palm to Obi’s equalising effort.

Adil Rami– 7 – Adaptable

Filled in well as emergency right back and got forward reasonably well throughout the match but performance dipped into the second period.

Philippe Mexes – 6 – Risky

Clumsy challenge on Icardi almost gave away goal scoring opportunity and was booked following challenge on Guarin. Was busy in the second half but dealt with pressure well.

Cristian Zapata – 5.5 – Clumsy

Poor clearance led to Inter equaliser but challenged well late on to prevent Guarin getting his shot away.

Mattia De Sciglio– 6 – Combative

Unimpressive at left back and made a number of unusual decisions in the first half. Did not impress in the second period.

Michael Essien– 6 – Gritty

Default performance by the Ghanaian defensive midfielder. Tidied up several Inter attacks.

Sulley Muntari – 6 – Rugged

Gave away ball needlessly on occasions and almost cost Milan an early goal but other than a few lapses in concentration, he put in a rugged and hard tacking performance which disrupted Inter’s play.

Giacomo Bonaventura– 6.5- Steady

Linked well with the front three, however, the Italian’s final pass was poor on occasions. Overall the 25-year-old did well when Milan commanded possession. Booked for a cynical challenge on Palacio.

Stephan El Shaarawy– 6.5 – Creative

Crossed well with his left foot to assist Menez’ opening goal and looked promising with several decent crosses from the left. Should have scored when his powerful shot hit the bar in the centre of the goal.

Jeremy Menez– 7- Promising

Superbly finished on the volley in the first half to conclude an excellent team goal but had been a passenger prior to opening the scoring and looked vacant for periods in the second half. However, did execute some promising forward runs.

Fernando Torres – 5 – Vacant

Struggled early on and looked isolated in the first half, wasting a promising counter with a poor through ball. Did not have an effort on goal.

Substitutes

Keisuke Honda – 6.5 – Exciting

Introduced with just under 20 minutes remaining. Looked exciting and troubled Dodo with darting runs and could have made the difference if introduced earlier.

Andrea Poli – N/A

Introduced with just over 10 minutes remaining, nearly scored in stoppage time as Handanovic was stranded in the Inter goal.

Inter

Samir Handanovic – 6 – Firm

Concede unstoppable goal with Milan’s first effort on target but did little wrong for the rest of the game.

Yuto Nagatomo– 6.5 – Offensive

Worked hard on the right flank and made some determined runs into the final third. The Japanese international did provide some good crosses but was out of position in the build up to the Milan goal.

Juan Jesus– 6 – Robust

Hesitated in defence at times and was booked midway through the second half but overall looked solid in dealing with Milan’s forward play.

Andrea Ranocchia – 6 – Solid

Got into difficulty trying to pass the ball out of defence during a secure and unspectacular performance from the Nerazzurri captain. Blocked a last minute Poli effort to secure a draw.

Dodo – 5.5 – Shaken

Did not look as promising going forward following collision with Muntari early in first half that left the youngster bloodied. Went missing at times as he struggled to regain his confidence.

Mateo Kovacic – 6 – Strong

The youngster was unspectacular going forward but did what was expected during a high intensity encounter.

Joel Obi – 6.5 – Decent

Long range effort saved early on and challenged firmly in the centre of the field during a determined performance. Booked following challenge on Rami but equalised with a clever trickling shot from outside the box.

Zdravko Kuzmanovic – 6 – Average

Crossed from a well worked corner but could not find a Nerazzurri body in a crowded box but had little additional impact on Inter’s attacking play.

Fredy Guarin – 6.5 – Instrumental

Ran and passed the ball consistently throughout the match. Looked commanding in midfield.

Mauro Icardi– 5.5 – Disappointing

Missed one on one after Muntari error when he should have found the net and went missing shortly after this as Inter struggled to get forward. Clipped the top of the bar with a shot on the turn but should have found the net with several good chances.

Rodrigo Palacio – 5.5- Impotent

Found it difficult to get involved in the game during the first half but did provide some hopeful crosses. Did not look like scoring his first goal of the season.

Substitutes

Hernanes – 6 – Comfortable

Introduced with 20 minutes remaining and looked purposeful and confident on the ball.

Pablo Osvaldo – N/A

Replaced Icardi with two minutes remaining.
