Fiorentina goalkeeper Neto has emerged as Roma’s primary target as the club searches for a long-term replacement for the ageing Morgan De Sanctis.

Giallorossi sporting director Walter Sabatini is currently on the lookout for such a replacement, with De Sanctis, 37, approaching retirement, while 22-year-old Lukasz Skorupski is not deemed ready to take the No.1 jersey full-time.

De Sanctis has been in good form this season, keeping seven clean sheets, though he was blamed for several of Bayern Munich’s goals in the crushing 7-1 defeat in the Champions League.

Roma were thought to have held an interest in Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, according to TuttoMercatoWeb. The 31-year-old has found his chances limited this season at Stamford Bridge as young Belgian star Thibaut Courtois has impressed between the sticks since returning from his loan at Atletico Madrid last season.

However, the Czech Republic international is still being courted by top clubs in England such as Arsenal, with the North London club prepared to offer €9 million for his services.

That news has propelled Neto to the forefront of Sabatini’s thoughts. The 25-year-old Brazilian has kept five cleans sheets so far this season, including the 3-0 win over Inter.
