Roma reportedly held discussions with Bayern Munich’s Xherdan Shaqiri during the last transfer window, however the Giallorossi opted to sign Juan Iturbe instead.

The 23-year-old Swiss has recently been struggling to break into the first team at Bayern on a regular basis and has made just three league starts for the German champions and was heavily linked with a move away from the club in the summer.

“We discussed the subject of Shaqiri moving to Roma this summer,” his Italian representative Ulisse Savini told Centro Suono Sport.

“It happened when Roma were looking to sign Juan Iturbe who seemed certain to join Juventus but then the Giallorossi got the Hellas Verona man.”

Savini then discussed the current situation of Shaqiri at Bayern.

“He is currently in a difficult position and I do not think he will able to move in January.

“There will be a final meeting in December between the boy, his brother, an attorney and Bayern to decide his future. Until then, he will not be moving anywhere.

“I cannot confirm if there will be meetings with Roma in the coming days, we’ll have to wait and see.

“At the moment I have had no contact with Roma, I know [Walter] Sabatini rates the player but I can’t confirm that there will be any future talks.
