Sampdoria’s Roberto Soriano spoke after his team’s disappointing 1–1 draw against Cesena on Sunday Serie A action.

With the draw and Napoli’s draw, Sampdoria failed to take the initiative to move ahead of the Neapolitans and back into third place in Serie A.

After the game, Soriano bemoaned his side’s slow start to the match and not showing the necessary determination to get all three points.

“We knew how hard the game was going to be,” Soriano said to Sky Sport Italia.

“You have to run, have the quality and put your soul in it in order to win; and in the first half we were not able to do so.

“In the second half we created chances and had we been more determined we would have grabbed the three points.

“We have gained a good winning mentality recently and this feels like two points lost.”

Sampdoria host Napoli next week in Serie A, with a chance to fight once more to regain third place in the table.
