Maurizio Sarri - EmpoliEmpoli were held scoreless in a draw against Atalanta on Sunday afternoon, earning only a point when they surely expected all three.

They were the more assertive side for the entire match, but Atalanta’s defensive tactics were able to keep them off the scoresheet.

Shortly after the final whistle, Empoli manager Maurizio Sarri weighed in on the result.

“We played a good game and I’m sorry we have not taken all three points.  We tried for the full result, but only earned a point,” Sarri said in the post-match conference.

“We were always bright, against a physical and defensive Atalanta side.

“I feel sorry for the guys, they deserved to win.

“We didn’t miss anything today, aside from a bit of luck in the penalty area.

“Against physical teams like this, we cannot say anything, other than our attempts did not lead to a goal.”

Empoli will be forced to rebound quickly from the disappointing result, as they face Napoli next Sunday.
