Frosinone smashed Trapani 4-1 to take over top spot in Serie B at the Stadio Matusi on Saturday afternoon.

Davis Curiale’s second-half hat trick was more than enough to see off Trapani who were effectively in the match for only the briefest of spells and outdone by Frosinone coach Roberto Stellone’s men. Serie-B-300x181

The Canarini picked up the deserved lead just before halftime when Robert Gusher’s long-range effort skipped substitute keeper Richard Marcone to put Frosinone up top.

The second half was the Curiale show and began inside of 10 minutes when Mirko Gori’s through ball sent Curiale in on goal and the German-born hit man easily wrong-footed Marcone to begin the rout.

A penalty kick by Matteo Mancuso briefly gave the visitors some hope but it was all over moments later when Mattia Aramu was foolishly sent off and given his second yellow on a needless come from behind challenge.

Frosinone used the man advantage to their benefit in a beautiful move when Federico Dionisi was played a lovely back heel in the box and his shot caromed off the keeper and onto the Curiale’s foot.

The 26-year old Serie B veteran saved the best for last as a lovely chip in stoppage time sent the Matusi faithful to the league summit.

Carpi missed the chance to take sole possession in an drab 0-0 Emilia-Romagna derby with Bologna and left the Biancorossi in second on goal differential and the Rossoblu within shouting distance a mere three points from the top.

Avellino are now undefeated in the last four matches as they traveled to the Stadio Braglia and defeated Modena 2-1 on a Luigi Castaldo brace.

The home side were reduced to nine men just as it looked like they may find the equalizer as Gianni Manfrin and Luca Nizzetto both earned second yellows leaving Modena two points above a play out spot.

Lanciano claimed an important scalp in defeating Livorno 1-0 at the Stadio Biondi and put themselves in a play off position on the strength of their 8th straight match without a loss. The Abruzzo side have only lost once all season, a 5-1 pounding at the hands of Frosinone in week five.

Catania are beginning to find their feet after a dreadful start as the Sicilians downed Varese 2-1 on the strength of a beautiful bicycle kick goal by Emanuele Calaio and Alessandro Rosina’s first goal from the run of play, having scored all five of his previous goals from the spot.

Cittadella and Latina drew 1-1 as both sides remain in the danger zone with Citta unable to hold onto an early lead. The result marks Citta’s fourth consecutive draw and leaves Latina rooted to the bottom of the table struggling to regain any of their excellent form from last season.

Perugia finally stopped the rot as the Grifoni secured a 2-1 victory over Virtus Entella at the Stadio Curi.

The Grifoni fell from the top of the standings and hadn’t won in six straight matches before Saturday’s victory, gifted by 18-year old Vittorio Parigini’s first goal of the season.

Vicenza picked up their first victory for new coach Pasquale Marino coming off three consecutive losses as Federico Moretti’s brace saw the Berici down Pro Vercelli 2-1.
