Roberto Soriano SampdoriaRoberto Soriano expressed great happiness following his debut for Italy in their 1-1 draw with Croatia in Sunday’s Euro 2016 qualifying match.

The 23-year-old substituted Manuel Pasqual in the 28th minute in a crowded San Siro stadium and admitted that donning the Azzurri jersey was a dream come true.

“For me it was a beautiful day, I always dreamed of playing with the Italy jersey,” said Soriano to Rai Sport. “Once I came on I really tried to get involved in the match.

“My teammates told me not to worry, the guys have made me feel part of the group, this is a powerful roster.”

Soriano also reflected on the difficult test provided by the Croatians.

“We know that red and white are a great team, we have suffered, but for us this is a good point.”

The Sampdoria midfielder then shared his hope to represent the Azzurri again in the upcoming friendly against Albania on Tuesday.

“It would be nice to play in Genoa at the Marassi, which I consider my home.”
