Giampiero Ventura has taken the blame for his side’s 2-1 defeat at HJK Helsinki in the Europa League.

The result has dented Torino’s chances of progressing to the knockout stages but Ventura is adamant that his team will qualify.

“I have to take responsibility for the performance and the result,” Ventura said in his post-match press conference.

“I apologise to the fans who have come so far to see the team play.

“I am extremely disappointed with the performance this evening and even if we had equalised my analysis would still be the same.

“You can not expect to win in Europe if you do not compete and makes challenges.

“There was a lot of heart and desire missing for the team tonight.

“After tonight we have to respond with determination and pride in our next match against Roma.

“In the Europa League, there are still two games to play and we are masters of our destiny, which is vital.

“I think we still have a great opportunity to qualify from this group.”
