Francesco Totti likened Roma’s disappointment at CSKA Moscow’s late equaliser in their Champions League group game on Tuesday to a punch from Mike Tyson.

Roma had led in their penultimate group E match through Totti when he hammered home a free kick and had looked to have claimed all three points until Vasili Berezutski got the lightest of touches on a cross to snatch a draw.

The Roma captain told Sky Sport Italia: “It’s like I took a punch from Tyson, because I did not expect this last minute goal.

“We had a good first half, however, being a great team means coming here and making the game. We did not run the ball well and we were punished. But we’re not looking for excuses, no one expected this little episode but it’s happened.”

Elsewhere Manchester City came from behind to beat ten-man Bayern Munich 3-2 to go level on points with the Giallorossi, setting up the final group game at the Stadio Olimpico between Roma and City as a winner takes all showdown – assuming that CSKA do not produce an upset against Munich.

“We have to think about ourselves,” Totti continued. “We know we have a difficult group, where everyone wrote us off but in the end it all depends on us.

“For the last match we will try to play our game and I am sure that the fans will give us a big hand.”
