Giovanni Trapattoni has opened the door to taking over the Greece national team after Claudio Ranieri’s recent sacking from the position.

The Italian veteran has confessed that he would love the chance to work for the Greek national team.

“It would be an honour to be the coach of the Greek national side, I have always dreamed of working in this country,” said the 75 year old stated as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.

“The climate and the sea are fantastic, and the standard of football is growing.

“I already know many of the international players and I am confident that Greece have the potential to qualify for European Championships.”

Ranieri was sacked after Greece’s 1-0 defeat at home to the Faroe Islands and Trapattoni has sympathised with the Greeks after this result.

“I saw the Faroe Islands game and really couldn’t believe it. However, in football these things can happen even to the best of us.”
