Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti feels that Roberto Mancini brings enthusiasm to the Nerazzurri squad and that Walter Mazzarri deserves respect for the job he did at the club.

The Inter legend has been answering a host of questions ahead of Sunday evening’s crucial derby against AC Milan mainly surrounding the change of head coach but he also revealed he twice turned down a move to Real Madrid during his career.

“The derby is a special game that everyone dreams of playing in, Mancini has brought enthusiasm [to the squad],” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Recently the results have not been there, but we have to respect the work of Mazzarri. Now begins a new era at the club, and we hope to have a good start on Sunday.”

He then addressed the times that he turned down a move to Real Madrid when he was playing for Inter.

“There was twice something with Real Madrid but it was my choice to stay at Inter as I was convinced our time would come.”

Zanetti moved on to discuss Andrea Agnelli’s recent statements about Inter’s role in the Calciopoli scandal.

“He is rightly defending the history of his club, I am proud to be a part of the history of Inter.
