Christian Abbiati is convinced that AC Milan will begin to pick up positive results if they continue to work hard in training, and is looking forward to the game with Napoli.

After a promising start to the season the Rossoneri have now won only once in their last seven matches and are currently 7th in Serie A after losing 1-0 at Genoa last weekend.

Speaking at Milanello, the 37-year-old goalkeeper told Milan Channel that the team can though take positives from their recent performances to take into their upcoming games.

“I think in the last few games we have put in good performances,” he said.

“Unfortunately the defeat at Genoa wasn’t what we wanted. We lacked something but we shouldn’t make a drama out of it.

“We know that it was a great opportunity for us to go into third-place, but on Sunday we have an important game.”

Milan take on a resurgent Napoli at the San Siro on Sunday night before a tough trip to the capital to face Roma the following Saturday, but the veteran says they will do their upmost to win those games.

“They are two games that will not be easy. We will have to prepare in the best way and we will have to give everything. In training we are giving our best and when you do later the results will come.

“The coach [Filippo Inzaghi] and his staff are good at preparing [for matches]. It will be an open game because Napoli will not come to the San Siro to defend.”

“We won’t be missing a competitive spirit and will to win. If we give everything for this shirt, later the results will come.”

Club captain Riccardo Montolivo made a welcome return from a broken leg with a start against Genoa, and Abbiati insists this is a boost for the team.

“He is a champion, our captain; his return is important. He is not yet in the best shape but his recovery is crucial for us.”

Away from football, Abbiati has recently become involved in a charity event to raise money for the foundation set up in honour of Moto GP rider Marco Simoncelli, who tragically died aged 24 in an accident at the Malaysian Grand Prix in 2011.

“I have had this project in mind for some time, and then I talked to his dad when he came here.

“We will put up for auction a Harley Davidson and all proceeds will be given to the Simoncelli Foundation. The auction will open tomorrow and will close January 20 which is Marco’s birthday.”
