AC Milan’s long-standing interest in Argentine fullback Leonel Vangioni appears to have cooled for the moment.

The Rossoneri had earmarked the 27-year-old Vangioni as a key candidate to provide cover in the problematic left-back area.

Tuttosport report that despite the Rossoneri declaring their interest in the player some time ago there has been no contact between the two clubs for a long period of time.

The full-back spot has been identified by Milan as key one for reinforcement after regular starter Mattia De Sciglio has suffered with form and injuries this campaign and coach Filippo Inzaghi appears unconvinced by his reserve fullbacks Pablo Armero and Michelangelo Albertazzi.

It remains unclear whether the club will look to tie up the deal for the Argentine before the January transfer window closes.

Vangioni has made 15 appearances for River Plate and scored once so far in Argentina’s Primera Division.
