Inter defender Alvaro Pereira, currently on loan at Sao Paulo, is reportedly set for a return to the San Siro during the January transfer window.

The 29-year-old joined Brazil’s most decorated club in January 2014, signing a two year loan deal from the Nerazzurri. The Uruguay international looks set to end his unsuccessful spell in Brazil and return to Italy earlier than expected.

According to Argentine newspaper Ole, River Plate could move for Pereira as a replacement for Milan bound Leonel Vangioni, with the two clubs set to conclude a deal for the Argentine defender in January.

Pereira has made 65 appearances for Uruguay since making his debut against France in November 2008, scoring six goals including a strike during the 2010 World Cup victory against hosts South Africa.
