Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski is said to be on the verge of a loan switch to Serie A with Inter.

World Cup winner Podolski has been on the periphery of Arsene Wenger’s plans and believes he needs playing time at this point in his career.

“I’m not young anymore and cannot afford to wait on the bench for a chance,” he told Polish daily newspaper Super Express.

“I’m 29 and my thought it just to play. I do not want to continue my career in the stands.

“What more can I do at Arsenal? I scored in the Champions League and ended up back on the bench. I do not know what else I have to show.”

Podolski was coy when quizzed on the subject of a transfer away from the Emirates.

“In the coming days, I will speak with the club and clarify their position,” he continued.

“As for Inter, there is nothing concrete.

“First I have to talk to Arsenal and understand their intentions.”

The German international has been linked with a series of moves to Italy over the past 12 months, including Juventus.

However, it seems talks are well advanced on a six-month stay with Roberto Mancini’s Inter, as the returning head coach bids to solve their attacking problems.
