Rafael Benitez NapoliNapoli coach Rafael Benitez has singled out his side’s lack of goalscoring prowess for their sub-par performance in Serie A this season.

The Spaniard made the remark in the aftermath of the Partenopei’s 2-0 defeat to AC Milan at the Stadio Meazza on Sunday evening.

“The game began badly for us,” he said, speaking to Sky Sport Italia.

“Unfortunately, [Gonzalo] Higuain is not doing what he did for us last year, when he was not concerned with who was around him,” he continued.

Benitez insists his side are in control of their own destiny and can still challenge for the final Champions League spot, but concluded by restating the impact the lack of goals is having on his side this season.

“There are a lot of teams within a few points of one another,” he continued.

“It is up to us to do better. We have no continuity, and we are not scoring enough goals. This needs to change.

“Despite creating chances we do not look as dangerous in attack. We lack the confidence needed in front of goal.”

After the San Siro loss, Napoli find themselves in seventh place in the Serie A table.
