Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has denied that he is looking to sign AC Milan’s Stephan El Shaarawy and Palermo’s Paulo Dybala.

Recent reports have suggested that the 47-year-old had asked the club to sign the pair as Dortmund look to improve upon their surprising 16th place position in the Bundesliga.

However, before his side’s 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg on Wednesday night, Klopp told the assembled media that such reports were wide of the mark.

“I did not ask the club for any signings because having more players does not automatically equate to having a stronger team,” he said.

Die Schwarzgelben were runners-up to Bayern Munich last season, but have lost nine games already this season since Robert Lewandowski left to join the Bavarians.

Former Torino forward Ciro Immobie was brought in to replace the Polish international along with Adrian Ramos from Hertha Berlin but both have so far failed to live up to expectations at the Westfalenstadion.

AC Milan winger El Shaarawy missed most of the last campaign through injury but has featured more regularly this term but has only managed one goal.

Dybala has been one of the stand out performers in Serie A this season, scoring seven goals in 15 appearances for Palermo.
