Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon expressed his disappointment at his side’s Supercoppa Italiana defeat to Napoli on Monday night in Doha.

The Bianconeri lost by a scoreline of 6-5 on penalties after 120 minutes ended 2-2, and the Old Lady had two chances to win the game in the penalty shootout but both Giorgio Chiellini and Roberto Pereyra missed their penalties.

“I’m disappointed because we were close to winning it three times,” he told Rai Sport. “In extra-time we were leading until the final minutes, and then we missed two chances in the penalty shootout.

“However, we congratulate Napoli who had the belief despite being in a difficult position.

“We were in the lead in the final 10 minutes of the game, and it is normal to sit back in defend.

“We’re very sorry for the loss, we wanted the Supercoppa Italiana, but the loss taught us a lesson.”

Juventus resume action in Serie A on January 6 in the Derby d’Italia against Inter at the Juventus Stadium.
