Lazio star Lorik Cana believes Lazio’s destiny is in their own hands when looking ahead to the remainder of this campaign.

The 31-year-old is optimistic the Biancocelesti have what it takes to deliver strong results in the new year despite several injuries suffered within the squad.

“We’re fine. We’ve worked well for several weeks now,” said Cana when speaking to Radio Style Lazio.

“Some injuries have decimated the squad, but those who have trained are fit and well.

“We want to climb the table before the break in order to give us confidence heading into Christmas.”

The Albanian international also expressed his pleasure with the way in which the fixture calendar has panned out for his club, who can climb back up to third position with an away victory at Inter on Sunday.

“Most of the games we play are at home. It all depends on us if we want to stay up there,” he continued.

“During the holidays we musn’t do anything too strenuous in order to maintain our physical levels.”

On a possible return to midfield duty after a long period featuring in Lazio’s defence, Cana believes his future to be exclusively at centre-back.

“Moving forward with age, I no longer have the physical qualities I had ten years ago,” the Albanian stated.

“I first came here as a midfielder, but I have grown well in defence since.

“Italy is the most important school as regards the defensive department.”

Former Marseille and Sunderland man Cana is expected to start at the back for Lazio on Sunday evening when they face former Biancocelesti coach Roberto Mancini, who is now in charge of Inter for the second time in his career.
