Sergio Pellisier is confident his Chievo side have what it takes to defeat Hellas Verona this Sunday afternoon.

The 35-year old captain has only made one start this season while coming off the bench seven times, however the veteran striker will nonetheless look to get on the scoresheet and net his first goal ever against their city rivals.

“Scoring would be the cherry on top, but that cherry would never take the place of a victory,” the long time Gialloblu fixture stated in an interview with L’Arena.

“We won’t settle for a draw either. Italian football has become boring because teams don’t go all out to grab a victory.”

Although the latest chapter of the Derby della Scala seems diminished with the struggles of both sides languishing in the bottom half of the table, Pellisier knows Hellas has the quality to make things difficult for any side.

Chievo are slowly putting the pieces back together under Rolando Maran, grabbing nine points over his eight games in charge and climbing just above the relegation zone. Losses by Parma and Cagliari on Thursday provide an opportunity for Chievo to rise comfortably out of the bottom half but Pellissier knows the task won’t be easy.

“Verona are a quick team and they take advantage of the little spaces their midfielders give up and use their experience to their advantage.

“The derby is a festival for everyone, our fans and theirs. During a difficult time for me [earlier this season] a Hellas fan came up to me in the street and complimented me and told me to not give up. The people of this city understand and appreciate when someone gives their all to a club.”

Hellas will host Sunday afternoon’s match at the Stadio Bentegodi to kick off the final day of Serie A action before the winter break.
