Chievo coach Rolando Maran praised the spirit of his side despite losing 2-0 to Inter to snap their unbeaten run.

The Flying Donkey’s were unbeaten in five in the league but succumbed to a goal in each half from Mateo Kovacic and Andrea Ranocchia.

“We are disappointed because, in spite of all Inter’s possession, we created a lot of scoring opportunities,” Maran told Sky Sport Italia.

“I’m sorry not to have brought home any points, but I saw the right spirit from my team.

“The guys are pulling out quality performances and sacrificing for each other.

“This is vital if we are to secure our safety and Serie A future.”

One sour note for Cheivo, Inter owned Ruben Bottas was sent off just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute after raising his arm in a challenge for a header with Zdravko Kumanovic.

“Botta’s arm made contact with the player, or so I’m told,” said the 51-year-old coach.

“I’m sorry because he’s only just returning from a long-term injury and needs to play.

“Looking back I don’t think a red was justified as there is minimal contact.”

Chievo are now 17th in the table a point above the relegation zone with the Derby della Scala on Sunday against bitter city rivals Hellas Verona.
