Inter director general Marco Fassone believes that Celtic will provide a tough test for his side in the Europa League but is eager to try and win the competition.

The tie will pit together two sides that played each other in the 1967 European Cup Final and Fassone is looking forward to the prospect of facing the Scottish side over two legs.

Speaking to Mediaset, he said: ‘’You have to try and win the competition, it is one of the alternatives that we have to get into the Champions League next season and we will do all we can to accomplish this.

‘’Celtic have great tradition and the game will be a complicated one but all of the others game would have been to.

‘’The Europa League is growing and we hope to do well in this competition.’’

Fassone also spoke about the January transfer window and what it will mean for Inter and new coach Roberto Mancini, as they look to climb up the Serie A table following a less than ideal start.

‘’We will talk about it with Mancini, Help and Thohir,” he continued.

‘’The important thing is that the coach makes it clear what he wants, which Mancini always has been and he’s also shared our plans too.

‘’We will have to operate with caution in January, which is never easy.

‘’Meanwhile, we will think of the League; our position is not what we expected but we will try to improve and then we will see where we are in February.’’

He also concluded that Inter may not need to spend, noting that their Academy has been something that has helped the team over the years.

‘’Our academy has always produced major talents,” he stated.

‘’I’ve noticed that Mancini is very attentive to the youth teams and personally follows the growth of the Primavera.’’
