Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has received a three-month ban and the Blucerchiati have been been fined €35,000 for racist comments Ferrero aimed at Inter president Erick Thohir.

The controversial Ferrero made the statements October 26 on RAI’s ‘Sabato Sprint’ program and was handed the punishment by the National Federal Court chaired by Sergio Artico.

The announcement came on Monday when a statement was published on the Italian Football Federation’s official website confirming the suspension which included a €10,000 fine levied directly at the Blucerchiati head man.

While discussing a conversation with honorary president Massimo Maratti’s decision to resign, Ferrero was quoted as saying he should “kick out that Filipino,” referring to Thohir.

When informed by the presenter the Inter president was from Indonesia, Ferrero added: “He has insulted an emblem of Italian football.”

For his part Ferrero has since apologized for the comments as the club has sought to move on from the distraction and keep their focus on the pitch where the Blucerchiati are currently tied with two other clubs on 26 points, behind only Roma and Juventus.
