galliani silvio berlusconiAC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani believes that there have been four great team’s throughout the history of European club football and he place’s the Grande Milan side of the late 1980’s/early 1990’s firmly within that select group.

The 70-year-old was speaking on the occasion of the 115th anniversary of the founding of the Milanese giants by English expatriates, Alfred Edwards and Herbert Kilpin who were living in the city.

“We Rossoneri fans are lucky to have seen one of the best teams in history,” Galliani told Milan Channel.

“Real Madrid in the late 50s, the Ajax side of the 70s, AC Milan in the late 80s and [Josep] Guardiola’s Barcelona are the four teams that have made the history of football for me.

“I think there have been three great moments of Berlusconi’s presidency: the victories of the two consecutive European Cups, an achievement which has not been equaled since, then the great period of [Fabio] Capello with three Cup finals and then the seasons with [Carlo] Ancelotti on the bench, with whom we won the Champions League in 2003 and 2007.

“It’s really something incredible as these three coaches took us all to the summit of the world.”

Galliani then went on to reveal that Ancelotti almost joined Parma in 2001 rather than Milan.

“A few days before hand I had spoken to Ancelotti and he told me he was about to sign for Parma.

“After the game in Turin, I talked with the president and we decided to change coach and to focus on Ancelotti, hoping that he had not already signed with Parma. I quickly called Carlo who told me that he was going to sign for them the following day.

“So I showed up at his house the next morning to convince him to accept our proposal. He arrived in Milan and began his extraordinary adventure with us.

“I hope that [Filippo] Inzaghi can do as well as Ancelotti. They are different people, but I see a lot of Carletto in Pippo.”

Galliani has been Silvio Berlusconi’s right hand man at the club since the former Italian Prime Minister assumed control of the Rossoneri in 1986.
