Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini believes his team threw away a golden opportunity to improve their position in the standings after falling 2-1 to Torino on Sunday.

The Grifone took the lead right before the half, but two second half goals from Kamil Glik sent the Liguria side crashing to a surprising defeat.

“We threw away the game. At the interval, we were third in the standings thanks to the momentary advantage.  In the second half, we were naive,” Gasperini told Rai Sport.

“This is a defeat that makes us look very bad. We returned to he pitch without the right aggressiveness.

“In the first half, we dominated. We could’ve finished the match at the 45th minute.  It’s a shame, we are disappointed and angry but football is like that.”

Heading into the holiday break, Genoa currently sit sixth in the Serie A table.
