Gennaro Gattuso has conceded that he would love the opportunity to coach Rangers following the recent resignation of Ally McCoist amidst economic turmoil at the Glasgow club.

The former Italian international endeared himself to Ibrox supporter’s during a solitary season with the fallen Scottish giants in the mid 1990’s before going on to a enjoy a glittering career with AC Milan.

“My wife is from Glasgow,” Gattuso told the Daily Mail, “but the real reason why I would like to coach Rangers is because it is a club that is in my heart and is a great team with an important history.

“Of course I am interested in the position. The situation in Crete is not easy. I wanted to leave, but the fans would not let me go.”

Since retiring from playing football Gattuso has had coaching positions at Sion and Palermo and is currently in charge of OFI Crete.
