Gian Piero Gasperini and Genoa will have to prepare for the post-winter break fixtures without full-back Giovanni Marchese.

The Italian underwent surgery on an injured lateral meniscus in his right knee on Tuesday.

The Ligurian club revealed the news to fans on their official website on Tuesday.

Expected recovery time for a procedure such as this can be over three months, but the Rossublu will be aiming to have their man back in action in just over two months.

Marchese has featured nine times in Serie A for the Grifone this season, scoring once and contributing with a further two assists in the process.
