Inter legend Javier Zanetti feels that Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli is unlikely to make a Serie A return.

The 24 year old Italy international has failed to make an impact since moving to Anfield from AC Milan earlier this summer, with speculation suggesting he may be back at the Nerazzurri in January.

“A Balotelli return? We all know Mario is a great player but I think it’s difficult because he only just arrived at Liverpool,” Inter vice-president and former captain Zanetti told Sky Sport Italia.

“In any case, after our game against Lazio on December 21 we will hold meetings to see what we can do and what is needed in terms of the transfer market.”

The Italian outfit currently ranked 11th in Serie A is keen on strengthening their attacking options in the upcoming winter transfer season.

Balotelli, who came through the ranks at Inter before being sold to Manchester City in 2010, returning to the San Siro would see the striker reunited with coach Roberto Mancini who coached the player in Manchester City and Inter earlier.

Mancini who has returned to Inter for a second coaching spell revealed after Monday’s 2-0 triumph at Chievo of the need for the Serie A side to bolster their attacking options.

“In certain roles in attack we are lacking,” Mancini told Gazzetta dello Sport. “The club are aware of this but in January it will not be easy.”

However, the Inter fans voiced their opinion during the same match by chanting ‘Balotelli – Son of a B*tch’ towards the end of the game.
