Italian referee Nicola Rizzoli has stated his support in favour of goal-line technology.

The 43-year-old said it would be very beneficial when deciding whether the ball has crossed the goal-line or not, but he wasn’t as supportive of using the technology to help decide if a foul should be given.

“The technology, if used well, cannot be ignored,” Rizzoli told ilpallonegonfiato.com.

“It is certainly a useful, informative tool for referees.”

On the subject of using the technology to help sort out violence on the pitch, Rizzoli continued, “I don’t think the camera can give much help to the referee when assigning a foul.”

Rizzoli has been a Serie A referee since 2010, and has been a FIFA listed referee since 2007, which has enabled him to officiate international matches, including this year’s World Cup final between Germany and Argentina.
