Manchester City star Stevan Jovetic admits he turned down the chance to join Champions League opponents Roma last summer in favor of a move to England.

The 25-year-old Montenegrin international had established himself as a star in the Serie A whilst at Fiorentina, and completed a move to Manchester City in the last summer in a big money move.

After struggling for form and injuries in his first season, Jovetic has bounced back this campaign, becoming a more important member of the Citizens in the process.

“It’s true [that Roma tried to sign me] from what I can remember,” Jovetic revealed in a pre-match press conference.

“There were many clubs after me. Roma are a big club but in the end I decided to sign for City and I’m very happy with my decision.”

City are in the the Italian capital ahead of their Champions League decider with Roma and Jovetic is desperate to show the Italians what they missed out on.

“I want to score. Its my duty to score. I’ve played a few games in this stadium and scored some goals against them [with Fiorentina], we won 2-1 a few years ago and I also made one.

“[The heir to Francesco Totti?] He talked to me and I’m happy; his words were important. I was made to understand that I was on track.”
