San Lorenzo defender Fabricio Fontanini is a target for Lazio as the Biancocelesti look to improve their defensive options in January.

The Aquile have started brightly in Serie A this season, currently sitting in third position, but a record of conceding 17 goals in 15 games is the worst of the top six teams.

Therefore, a deal to bring in 24-year-old Fontanini from his native Argentina is being considered, according to Lalaziosiamonoi.it.

The defender is believed to have good potential, and replaced Santiago Gentiletti in the Matadores defence after the 29-year-old signed for Lazio in August.

Since then, Fontanini has appeared eight times for his club, and was an unused substitute in their 2-1 win over Auckland City in the Club World Cup on Wednesday.

Biancocelesti sporting director Igli Tare is believed to be willing to pay €2.5 million for the defender, with other options including Paulo Oliveira of Sporting Lisbon, Steaua Bucharest’s Lukasz Szukala, and PSV Eindhoven defender Nicolas Isimat-Mirin.
