The agent of Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has met with Roma officials over a possible transfer to Serie A.

The 30-year-old England full-back has been a consistent fixture in Brendan Rodgers’ team this year, but with Johnson’s contract running out at the end of the season, a move is thought to be viable.

According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, Johnson’s agent travelled to the Italian capital two weeks ago to discuss a deal, Roma capable of signing the Englishman on a pre-contract agreement when just six months remain on his contract with The Merseysiders.

However, the chances of the experienced defender following in Ashley Cole’s footsteps of leaving a top English side for Serie A runners-up Roma are hindered by coach Rudi Garcia being less than convinced by the defender’s current ability.

Roma will probably look to expand their right-back options in the summer, with 33-year-old Maicon and injury-prone Vasilis Torosidis the only current options.
