Empoli midfielder Massimo Maccarone has revealed that his team will be looking to impress in the Derby dell’Arno against Fiorentina on Sunday by pushing to earn a victory.

The Azzurri will be heading to the Stadio Franchi to take on the Viola with the objective of extending their five-match unbeaten streak in the Serie A and the 35-year-old is hoping to please his club’s fans by securing a positive result, but doesn’t want his team-mates to falter under the pressure.

Maccarone spoke to the press following Wednesday’s training session about Empoli’s meeting with Fiorentina and the talent possessed by the hosts, while also commenting on his mission to help the visitors show their true quality with an excellent performance.

“Matches like the one on Sunday must also be prepared for alone,” said the veteran. “We want to impress and show everyone the quality we have even against a team like Fiorentina.

“It is also a derby, which is felt greatly by the fans. However, we must play it without feeling too much pressure. Surely we will stumble in time with that type of approach.

“I have already won against the Viola during my time at Siena and I would like to repeat that achievement. Fiorentina are a great team with great chemistry.

“We are now recovering after a difficult time.”
