AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini has said that the youth sector’s objective should be to produce first team players.

The legendary defender, who has two children playing in Milan’s youth sides, was speaking at the Christmas party event of the club’s youth sector on Thursday at Metropol.

Maldini, who himself is a product of the AC Milan academy, said to Milan Channel:“I think this event is an important thing to show how well the Milan youth sector works. The look-out for talent and the growth of these players is at the basis of everything you see here this evening.

“There are many youth sectors that have been structured well, but the one at Milan since I was playing here has always considered the playing style and possession to be an important idea. The results are excellent, even if generally in the youth sector you shouldn’t look too much at results but new talents and their growth ahead of professional football.

“It’s much harder to be a part of the Milan Youth Sector now as there is more competition and professionalism and there’s the global market, but before anything there has to be talent and passion.” added the former player.

“In my opinion, the objective of all the youth sector teams is to see one day the players make their debut in the first team.”
