Hellas Verona coach Andrea Mandorlini was clearly disappointed after his side’s 1-0 home defeat to Chievo in the Derby della Scala.

The Flying Donkeys got the win after a late Alberto Paloschi goal gave them bragging rights over their city rivals, while the Hellas coach also criticised the state of the pitch.

“It wasn’t a good game,” Mandorlini told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was played on a bad pitch, it’s tiring when the ball doesn’t bounce as it should.

“At half-time I told the boys that the game would be decided by a single moment.

“Yet, the game wasn’t decided by a Hellas player or a Cheivo one, but by someone else,” he said in reference to the Paloschi’s goal being offside.

“It was a very combative derby and very intense.

“The game looked like it was going to an end in a draw but then we all know what happened.”

Mandorlini said he wasn’t especially concerned with his side’s performance as he didn’t feel Chievo deserved the win.

“Verona played the game that we had to play and I don’t believe that Chievo deserved the win.”
