Jeremy Menez has revealed that he has fond memories of his time in Rome even though many of his close friends are not involved in the world of football.

The AC Milan forward, who spent three years at Roma between 2008 and 2011, reflected upon his career ahead of Saturday evening’s crunch clash between his current and former employers.

“I love [Philippe] Mexes because we have been through so much together,” Menez told Gazzetta Sportiva.

“I also have nice memories of [Francesco] Totti and [Daniele] De Rossi from my time in Rome and I have them in my heart, but my real friends are not in football, apart from [Karim] Benzema who is a brother to me.

“My friends have remained the same as they were when I was not famous and none of us had any money.

“Today I am getting older and the passing of age brings me closer to the time when I will stop playing football, but that is still seven or eight years away because like [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic I also feel like a wine: the older I get the better I become.

“When I stop playing I will be able to have a little panzerotti because I like to eat too: the dough was one of the many things that I remember about Rome.”

Menez has been in scintillating form for Milan this season, scoring eight goals in 15 Serie A appearances.
